Your Questions, Answered by Deconstruction Development Partners

Why Should You Work With Us

What is DBSP?

DBSP stands for Deconstruction Benefit Services Program, a system that helps property owners turn deconstruction projects into IRS-compliant, non-cash charitable donations. Instead of demolishing, you donate usable materials, get them appraised, and receive a potential tax deduction—all while supporting your community.

How is this different from demolition?

Demolition sends everything to a landfill. Deconstruction carefully removes and salvages building materials like wood, cabinetry, doors, and fixtures. These materials are donated to nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity, reducing waste and unlocking value for donors.

How does DDP help with this process?

DDP Services handles everything:

  • Deconstruction coordination
  • Nonprofit delivery
  • Appraisal and documentation
  • IRS Form 8283
  • Logistics, compliance, and labor reporting
We ensure your donation is legally defensible and fully optimized for tax benefits and impact.

Where do the donated materials go?

They’re delivered to vetted nonprofit reuse centers like Habitat for Humanity ReStores. These organizations sell the materials to fund affordable housing and community programs—keeping materials in use and supporting local economies.

What kind of properties qualify?

Both residential and commercial properties can qualify, including homes, warehouses, retail spaces, multifamily buildings, and city-owned properties. If there’s salvageable material, it may be eligible for donation through DBSP.

Can this help my city or municipality?

Yes. DBSP is part of a broader economic model that includes:

  • Workforce training under WIOA
  • Green infrastructure and EV-ready housing
  • Entertainment partnerships for local revenue
    • We work with cities to build City Centre models that combine reuse, redevelopment, and labor equity.

What documents do I need for a donation?

We manage the full punch list, including:

  • Executed appraisal
  • IRS Form 8283
  • Nonprofit receipts & letters
  • Contractor authorization
  • Treasury opinion letter (as needed)
All documents are prepared, verified, and stored for audit protection.

Is this available in my area?

DDP operates nationally with local partners. Check our Locations page or Contact Us to see if your city is part of the program—or help us bring it there.
